Well, first, he didn't "cash in" on the story. He received no renumeration of any kind for the story or the pictures.

Second, he was harassed by the media and gossip bloggers into discussing his private life. Like he said, "I would have been happy to have kept my personal life private for that very reason. Because it's personal life and I have always considered myself a private person. But, living as myself without discussing my sexuality publicly would have been as impossible. One chance to expose the truth would have been a payday for any greedy opportunist."

So, no... he was not being hypocritical or whining.

I have to admit when I first heard the neWS i was in shock, like he said it doesn't change the person he is, Personally i don"t think he lied.
But i will still be a Clay Aiken fan now and always. It takes a lot of courage to go thru things he has gone thru and come thru the deep waters with his head held high. How many of us can honestly say that we could do the same thing.

It's a little hypocritical to go on and on whining about "private life" except when he's using it (and his baby) to cash in on the cover of PEOPLE.

Clay Aiken is such a wonderful intelligent man. What other celebrity would take the time to address their fans and speak from their heart. We are blessed to be fans of Clay Aiken. I look forward to many more years of being entertained by him.

Clayam, from the tone of your comment, I think you probably meant stronger human being. I am just mentioning this so the malcontents won't use "stranger". I think Clay has proven to his fans and a lot of others since his private blog has been made public, that he is the man most of us thought he was and loved him for that. He has been harrassed by so many reporters that it's a wonder he has been able to keep up his kind, compassionate and caring nature as he has shown us in his blog. I am even now more proud of this wonderful young man who has more courage and conviction than any ten people I know. Let's hope that this whole fiasco can now be laid to rest and we can get on with the pleasure of being a loyal fan of Our Man Clay (OMC).

Clay Aiken is one courageous young man, no one should go through what he has gone through. His private life should have been his own, shame on the people who caused him so much torment. But he is strong and he has come out of it a stranger human being.

This part of his blog really stuck out for me:

clay is correct - shame on people - it's horrible. Those who made it their day to day business to hurt this wonderful man should feel shame - I know they don't, because I think a lot of them are justifying their actions by saying they're right. They were never right, they were always wrong. It was never about orientation but always about simple human respect.
