I agree with your observation of the article.

As to the winning or not 6 years ago..at this point who cares!! He's a star today because of his talent.

I don't believe that the fans' devotion to Clay Aiken has anything to do with winning or losing. It's always been about the voice. And the way he has expanded his career since, and the success he has had since leaving idol, is proof enough that winning isn't everything.
